What is SEO and how does it work?
SEO stands for search engine optimization and is the effectiveness of a company’s performance on online search engines.
Put simply it’s getting your website to appear on page one of Google or similar search engines.
Google ranks pages by taking many different factors into account. One of these factors is keyword usage. A site with more keywords relating to the site’s content (for example, words relating to cakes on a bakery’s website) is more likely to be on the first page of Google.
Another factor is brand recognition. Appearing on reputable websites is also good for Google rankings. Users are more likely to trust authoritative and relevant sites, and Google trusts them too!
Backlinks are also extremely useful when it comes to SEO. Backlinks are links to your website from other sources, for example links on social media such as Twitter, this doesn’t only generate visitors but also shows search engines that your site is relevant and therefore should be placed higher on search results.
Why is SEO important for businesses?
Statistics show that sites on Google’s first page garner 91.5% of traffic, users are more likely to visit sites on the first few pages of search results than sites on, say, the 5th page. Exposure through search results can boost a company’s potential for business immensely.
Getting your business to the front page
Reaching the first page on Google search results isn’t as hard as it’s made out to be. Google and other search engines use certain techniques and algorithms to work out which website content is the most relevant. Therefore if you know what they are looking for, it becomes easier for your website to include what is necessary. Here at Yellow Spider we use a range of techniques, both on-site and off-site, to give your business the boost it needs. These include:
· Creating relevant content using carefully chosen keywords to ensure potential customers can find you easily, i.e.: blog posts, such as this one.
